IKEA CATALOGUE - deconstructed

What happens when you look at the multi-printed-and-world-wide-read IKEA Catalogue and deconstruct it?

Well, it happens something like........ this ->

374 pages that Jason Salovon examined and reduced to their most simple forms: dimension on page and color predominancy. Very keen, actually.
(For Pantone fans it must be a Christmas gift.)

Google Maps for mobile with My Location (beta)

Google started a new 'beta' project, called Google-Maps \ My Location.
What impresses me more is the video quality & style, a fabulous work on a stupend well done video -- BUT -- made in a way to look like a low-profile & nice n' easy video.

The cards idea, the sudden hand appearing, the pen on the board... all this is Google communication strategy at its best! They are just gigantic, but still maintain a speech of a simple and neighbor company. They don't want the common man to know they're big. They wanna get your confidence, get close to you, and the best way to do that is wiping out anything that might say they're big.

The thing is - they are big! But what is interesting is that people know that, but still like to believe these guys are 'different' from Microsoft and Yahoo!

We'll see what future brings...

Latent Dirichlet allocation, Yahoo, YHaus, ...

"Learned a new word today:" Latent Dirichlet allocation

However, so far it is being much more interesting and fun to me reading and learning more about PLSi - Probabilistic latent semantic indexing .

All these new inputs, topics and ideas have come from interesting projects that are being developed at YHaus. One of them, a simple and different visualization of search terms that become popular (and so are called "bursts") is the Query Bursts project, developed by Jasmine Novak. You can see bellow a frame that I got from the movie (if you wish to watch it please click here) or read more about this and other projects at YHaus blog: http://design.yahoo.com/blog/

(bad thing is: their RSS feed is not working, tss... tss...)

Digg \ Labs

I really love the projects shared and developed between Digg and Stamen, on DIGG\LABS.

From the four already available, I really dig Bigspy (I had to joke using the 'dig' word... sorry) ! But I'm a typography lover. So blame me for that. I sometimes come here and watch this information display and get amazed by it. It is, really, a work of art!
=)

Have a try:

How Can You Combine Food & Design?

With Foodpairing!
Well, actually, not quite...

I found the project and website via Information Aesthetics. But although at first I got marveled with the idea, I then started to dig on the graphics of recommendations. I found it cool and interesting, but then I clicked on Mozarella cheese, and I got the graphic bellow:

As you can see it even better by clicking and enlarging the graphic, there are no tomatoes or oregons related, not even on a long line (short lines represent close pairing/easy combination, while long lines represent harder combinations). And I can bring you here dozens of people who have tried my Mozarella-Oregons-Tomatoes-Balsamic Vinegar combination, and they will certainly cry for more! The first bad rule here is that good recipes are made from similar tastes combined, which is totally wrong. Sometimes, it's when sweet tastes meet salty flavours that things become fun.

But despite that, I find very interesting the graphic development. At least interesting enough to make me browse and click a few more items... and start to feel really hungry!
